Like a lot of people, we binged "The White Lotus" seasons 1 and 2 pretty quickly on HBO Max recently. Jennifer Coolidge has never been one of my favorite actresses but she was so good in her role as Tanya McQuoid and the Tanya McQuoid-Hunt on the series. She was so funny and had such layers to her character.
The character was a multi-multi-millionaire who, I believe, inherited the money and just kind of flitted through her life with all kinds of mania and different anxieties. She seemed like she wanted to genuinely be a good person and wanted to help others but at the end of the day, whats hers was the most important thing to her.
She was a likable character for a TV series, but in real life, she'd probably be a real emotional roller coaster. But I thought she deserved some commemoration. This was fun to paint. Been playing around with some different techniques lately. On this one, i gessoed the paper first. That creates this whole other texture and feel to the painting. The paint and water dont behave the same way as on non-gessoed paper so it takes some getting used to and creates a lot of unexpected things like paint blooms and such, that you just have to accept as part of the medium.
