Jackie hired me to do a painting of her engagement photos that she could use as the cover of her wedding programs. I love a bit of pressure (this is someones biggest day and I'm gonna be a part of it, now- thats a bit stressful- in a good way).
I wanted to wow her and make it really special so i had to get more creative than just doing an exact rehashing of one of the photos. She sent me some of her favorites to choose from.
Good looking couple.
I decided I liked the pose in one of the pictures specifically, but wanted them to be looking at each other. I also decided I wanted to put a superimposed pic of them in a muted tone look, as an inset in the foreground. So I used my photoshop app to composite Jackie's head from one picture onto the pose I'd decided to use, and to lay in the inset for positioning and composition purposes like so: --->
It looks a little ramshackle, but it served its purpose- giving me a good guideline with which to plan my composition.
We agreed on it being a smaller size; 9"x12", so some of the room for detail was limited. And watercolor isn't totally meant to be exact, anyway. Lines and washes should flow and overlap and have an organic feel.
I was satisfied with the work overall and Jackie was really happy, which is the most important thing. Happy for her and her fiancee and their special day and glad i was able to contribute.
