Anne's Brother's Dog

Updated: Feb 10, 2023

Anne is my main bar partner at work. We've worked together for 4+ years now and have developed a real rhythm and shorthand when we work. I've never had a better work flow with any other bartender I've ever worked with. We just complement each other perfectly- we see the field the same way and always know what to do to either stay out of the other's way, or when and how to jump in and help. All of this is important in any work partnership and its especially important in what we do.

We also have a lot of fun. Anne is a positive, upbeat, silly and playful person. I always describe working with her like working with a kindergarten teacher, but in the best way. She has a lot of her own words and names for stuff and silly G-rated nicknames for our regulars and the other staff. We laugh a lot.

Anne is also, maybe more than any other part of her personality, an animal lover. She has a bunch of cats and has been known to donate to rescue organizations and shelters. She's got a big heart.

Ive never met her brother, but from how she describes him, he has a big heart, too. He had a couple of long-haired dachshunds that he loved a lot. Unfortunately, one of them had passed away recently. Anne wanted to do something nice for her bro on his birthday so she asked me if i could do a portrait of him with Willy, the pup thats still with us.

She gave me some reference photos and i really didn't have to alter too much. I liked the positioning of his arm in one of them and the rest of the pose in another one, so i photoshopped the "good arm" onto the "good pose" and used that as a reference:

Basically, i really liked the pose on the left. Both boys looked really happy and content. But i liked the arm positioning better in the pic on the right;

So I photoshopped them into this:

Again, theres not really that much i needed to change. I didnt really even need to change anything, just a personal composition preference.

Final product:

Pretty happy with this overall. I could nitpick a couple things, but i was happy with the planning, composing and execution of all of it. I like the overall warm tone and Willy looks like such a sweet little guy.

Anne was really happy and she made me show everyone at work when I gave it to her (including other coworkers and a bunch of customers at the bar, one of which was a Boston Bruins Hall of Famer. Pretty cool to get to show him my work). She said her brother loved it too which makes me happy. It was a fun piece to work on.
